Thanks to this victory Real closed half way of the first phase of the competition with full marks in Group F. This result combined with Porto's success in Marseille rose the merengues almost to the second round, when three matches are still to be played. Ronaldo gained his ninth victory in eleven games disputed this year with the merengues. The Brazilian and Real Madrid CF keep marching on unrestrainably in order to get closed to their several goals: Champions League, Primera División and Copa del Rey. The Spanish Super Cup is already their showcase.

In the 15th minute upon receiving a pass by Zinedine Zidane, Ronnie made an assist to Luis Figo, who shot just wide. In the 29th minute Ronnie made his first shot on goal, but goalkeeper Pantic could save his goal, hidding into a corner kick. In the 64th minute he received a deep pass, waited for David Beckham, but the shot by the British star was saved by the Serbian goalkeeper.
