This day in history of Ronaldo
SEVILLA, Spain (AFP) - Real Madrid conceded a goal after just 40 seconds and survived the sending-off of Zinedine Zidane to hold off Sevilla and reach the Spanish Cup final after a stormy semi-final ended 1-0.
When Antonio Lopez applied a decisive finish to Dario Silva's cross in the first minute, Real's 2-0 lead from the first leg suddenly looked vulnerable.
World player of the year Zidane was dismissed for thrusting his hand into Sevilla's defender Pablo Alfaro's face just before half-time.
But Sevilla lost their numerical advantage when Javi Navarro was sent off in the 54th minute.
Real came close to a first-half equaliser but Roberto Carlos was pulled up for offside and Ronaldo was then denied from close range by Seville keeper Esteban Andres Suarez.
Raul tested Esteban with a long-range effort in the dying seconds and David Beckham was pulled off after a low-key performance as Real grimly hung on to keep their dreams alive of a league, Cup and Champions League treble.
In next month's final, Real will play the winners of Real Zaragoza and Alaves who meet in the other semi-final on Thursday with their tie poised at 1-1 from the first leg.
