CHICLAYO, July 7 (SW) - Both
Mexico and Uruguay had to come back from behind once to eventually reach a draw
in Group B of the 2004 Copa America in Peru.
Three minutes before the interval, Manchester United player Diego Forlán's
header ended up in front of Bueno who did well to put the ball past the Mexican
goalkeeper.
But only three minutes later, the Mexicans equalized. Looking at his own
reaction, Osorio attempted to pass the ball to another player but his cross went
straight into the Uruguan goal.
Eight minutes after the hour mark, Pardo gave Mexico the lead with a distance
shot and things started looking even worse for Uruguay when Richard Morales was
sent off by the referee after a violent tackle.
However, a header from Juventus player Paolo Montero only three minutes before
the end of regular time in Chiclayo set the final score at 2-2.
Mexico, runners-up of 2001, and Uruguay share Group B with favorites Argentina
and 2002 Worldcup participants Ecuador. |
