Ronaldo's return has been the most
anticipated event of the past few months. The Brazilian player rejoined
the squad in today's training session, and had no problem completing it.
Yesterday's starting team worked out in a mild training session, while
the rest of the squad trained much harder. Salgado was the only player
that worked out on his own.
Real Madrid players attended the first of the three workouts to take
place before Sunday's match against Real Sociedad. Ronaldo has recovered
from his knee injury and might be able to make his season debut on
Sunday. He trained normally with the rest of the team and his knee seems
to have recovered its strength.
Ronaldo didn't experience any problems during the workout and even
proved he is totally recovered by scoring various goals in the scrimmage
organised by Fabio Capello. The striker worked on ball movement,
sprinting and shooting with both legs, showing that he is capable of
helping the team. The scrimmage was played on half the pitch with four
youth system players. The men were divided into two teams of six.
Robinho, Guti and Reyes were among the men who stood out by playing
remarkably well. The good attitude and the efforts made evidenced the
players' desire to forget about the bad image they gave in last night's
match against Lyon.
Mild session for starting players The eleven players that started in Real Madrid's first Champions
League match this season attended a mild session in which they started
working on jogging and stretching exercises after Capello's opening
speech. Despite sufering from knee tendinitis, David Beckham managed to
finish the jogging exercises without experiencing any problems. It seems
he will be able to fully work out on Friday. After training for half an
hour, last night's starters left the pitch with renewed strength for
Friday's harder workout.
Salgado trains separately Míchel Salgado was the only player that trained separately. Real
Madrid's right back defender had a bandaged left knee, and worked on
running and ball movement exercises, supervised by medical staff member
José Luis San Martín. The pain he's been feeling ever since he was hit
on the knee is diminishing every day.
The session was over an hour long, and ended with Robinho and Reyes
practicing shots on goal. The players will attend two more training
sessions behind closed doors this week in order to prepare for Sunday's
match against Real Sociedad. The squad want to improve on their image,
and they are working intensely to do so.
