Hardly having any rest after
yesterday's victory, Real Madrid trained this morning to prepare for
Tuesday's Champions League match against Olypmique Lyonnais on. Guti,
Emerson, Cannavaro, Beckham, Ronaldo and Cassano missed a session in
which yesterday's starters underwent a mild recovery session, while the
rest worked on exercises with and without the ball.
Fabio Capello didn't give his men a day's rest after yesterday's 3-1
victory over Racing Santander, in order to prepare them for Tuesday's
Champions League match against Olympique Lyonnais. The whole squad -except
for Cicinho who is recovering from his injury in Brazil, and Cassano who
had Club leave to miss the session- trained at Real Madrid City this
morining, watched by many fans.
But some players didn't step onto the pitch. The injured Cannavaro,
Beckham, Ronaldo and Emerson have been recovering in the gym, while Guti
was given time off to rest. The others were divided into two groups.
Last night's starters –Raúl, Van Nistelrooy, Ramos, Reyes, Casillas,
Roberto Carlos, Helguera and Diarra- underwent a mild recovery session,
while the rest –Mejía, Pavón, Raúl Bravo, Míchel Salgado, Robinho and
Miñambres- worked on exercises with and without the ball.
Recovering with a smile
The fact that yesterday's starters were wearing running shoes
anticipated that they were going to jog while being supervised by
physical trainer Santiago Lozano. They ran two laps around the pitch in
two different rounds, while doing stretching exercises in between,
during which they chatted and joked with each other, a clear sign of
satisfaction with yesterday's victory. After working out for half an
hour, Iker Casillas left the group in order to do some sprinting
exercises prior to leaving the pitch. These exercises improve his
potency and speed, which allow him to do incredible saves like those ha
did in yesterday's match.
Raúl, Helguera and Ramos also worked on sprinting exercises. On the
other hand, Roberto Carlos and Diarra preferred to work on passing and
ball control.
Three on three
The rest of the squad worked out under Fabio Capello's supervision.
After warming up in a practice match with small goals, they started to
work on a cone and pole circuit devised by physical trainer Massimo Neri.
They finished off by practising on counterattack plays of three
attackers. Meanwhile, goalkeeper coach Marco Tancredi worked with Diego
López and Kiko Casilla, who joined the three on three match that Pavón,
Robinho and Salgado played against Raúl Bravo, Mejía and Miñambres to
end this morning's training session.
Sergio Ramos ovation
Sergio Ramos, who scored a fantastic free-header last night, made the
highlight of the workout by attending the fans' insistent calls to him.
He signed autographs on shirts, notes and footballs, and humbly spoke to
the fans, who thanked him with an ovation.
