Milan's January signing has been one of the game's
most potent predators of the past decade, but has also seen his career blighted
by serious injury.
In recent times, Ronaldo's fitness, and weight, has been brought into question,
but his Portuguese namesake does not feel he is given enough credit for his
achievements.
"Ronaldo is one of the best players I have ever seen," the Manchester United
winger told the latest edition of the Sky Sports magazine.
"Many people don't show him the respect that he deserves. I would love to
achieve the same level that he has got to.
"If I could follow in his footsteps I would be
very grateful."
The Red Devils ace is also spearheading the new generation of players in the
Portuguese national team, following the international retirement of the likes of
Luis Figo.
The burden sits easily on Ronaldo's shoulders and he acknowledges he has no
problem being the focus of his country's expectations.
He added: "When people say that I am the new phase of Portuguese football, that
this is something very important for my country, it is something I want."
The Ronaldo interview is one of a number of top features in the April edition of
the magazine, delivered free to all Sky Sports subscribers. |
