Ronaldo scored twice and Andrea Pirlo hit a
wonderful free-kick as Milan headed to Manchester in the best way possible
following a 3-1 win over Cagliari
Milan warmed up for their Champions League semi-final first leg tie against
Manchester United in the best way possible, with a 3-1 win over Cagliari at the
San Siro. Ronaldo was once again man-of-the-match as the Brazilian grabbed two
goals while Andrea Pirlo weighed in with a wonderful free-kick.
The opening goal came after a run and pass from Clarence Seedorf out to the
right edge of the area where Marcos Cafu won a fifty-fifty challenge before
playing in a low cross for Ronaldo to score from close range. Cafu also provided
the cross for the second, with Ronie this time chesting into an empty net after
goalkeeper Antonio Chimenti missed the flight of the ball. David Suazo briefly
brought Cagliari back into the game from the penalty spot after Capone had been
fouled in the area.
However, Pirlo rounded off an empathic victory when he majestically swept a
25-metre free-kick into the top corner of the net. Not even Kakha Kaladze's late
sending off for a second yellow card could take the gloss off a thoroughly
professional performance to send the Rossoneri off to Old Trafford in good heart.
