When everything seemed to point to a goalless draw, Alberto
Gilardino found the goal worth the victory at Udine. In injury time, the striker
beat Handanovic and gives the team the 3 points.
UDINE - Milan beat Udinese 1-0, finding the second consecutive victory after the
one against Napoli at San Siro and earning three points which were by then
Until the 47th minute of the second half, in fact, the result was deadlocked,
despite the many, many chances created by both sides.
But, at the death, there was Kaká's back-heel and Gila's goal, a few minutes
after replacing Ronaldo, who played a good match. The striker from Biella scored
on his first good touch, finding himself ready for the appointment with the goal
and the victory.
Here is the story of the match:
After the exciting victory over Napoli, Milan go to Udine with the objective of
getting all three points and the desire to find the consistency, both at home
and away, which had been missing in the first part of the season.
Carlo Ancelotti was forced to do without Inzaghi, Jankulovski, Serginho, Dida,
and Maldini, who was not able to celebrate his 23rd birthday at Milan on the
pitch where he had made his debut on 20 January 1985, and played Kalac in goal
and Favalli on the left to repalce the captain.
With the all-Brazilian attack of Kakà-Pato-Ronie, the coach opted for a more
defence-minded midfield with Gattuso, Ambrosini and Seedorf (Pirlo was suspended)
and chose the less attack-minded Bonera in defence instead of Oddo on the right.
Meanwhile, Pasquale Marino played Coda and Eremenko to replace the suspended
Felipe and Inler, and the trio of Pepe-Quagliarella-Di Natale up front.
In the first minutes of the match, both sides studied each other and played
mostly in midfield. The first shot on goal was by the Bianconeri, with
Quagliarella attempting a shot in the 12th minute, but Kalac was alert. In the
17th minute, Milan replied with a dangerous header by Ronaldo, which was saved
Ronie was much more dangerous in the 25th minute, when he struck a right-footed
shot from distance which crashed against the post with the keeper beaten. The
ball then came to Seedorf, but he didn't have the timing to control it well.
After Ronaldo hit the woodwork, the team from Friuli did not take long to react:
Pepe had a great chance, but on his shot Kalac pulled off a brilliant save. The
Milan goalkeeper repeated himself a few minutes later, first managing to block a
shot by Di Natale, and then a header by Quagliarella (31').
In the 40th minute a nice move by the home side culminated in a left-footed
volley by Quagliarella, but once again Kalac was not surprised.
Also in the restart Ronaldo was the most dangerous Milan player. The
confirmation came in the 3rd minute, when the Fenomeno again troubled Handanovic.
In the 14th minute, it was Seedorf who caught the attention of the stadium. The
Dutchman struck a right footed shot, but for the Rossoneri there was no luck.
The teams continued to respond to each other blow for blow, and Udinese came
close to scoring again in the 17th minute: Quagliarella took a shot from the
edge of the area which incredibly finished over the bar.
The match continued to be played at a decent rhythm, with Milan trying to keep
control of the game with their ball possession. But the absence Pirlo created
some difficulties for the Rossoneri, who did not always serve their strikers
In the 29th minute, Ambrosini tried to break the deadlock with a nice shot from
distance, but he did not aim his effort well. Same story, a minute later, for a
shot by Pato.
In the 37th minute, Ancelotti tried to insert Gilardino, entering the striker
from Biella in Ronaldo's place. Gila tried a shot immediately, but again it was
saved by Handanovic, who had a great match today. Near the end Milan won a free
kick from the edge of the area: Seedorf took the shot and sent the ball just
But when the end result seemed written, there came the joy: in injury time,
Gilardino finally opened the score on a back-heeled past by Kaká. Gila's goal
was worth three points. Well done Alberto!
On Wednesday the Rossoneri will play at Bergamo against Atalanta.
