The fans who packed the Maracanãzinho arena in Rio de Janeiro for the FIFA
Futsal World Cup Final on Sunday briefly turned their attention away from the
field of battle to hail a familiar face in the crowd: Ronaldo.
Ronaldo, who is himself a big futsal fan, was as delighted as the rest of the
home support as Brazil defeated Spain 4-3 on penalties to reclaim the crown they
had lost eight years ago.
“The last time Brazil were champions [1996], I was there in Barcelona and saw us
beat Spain in the final,” he recalls.
“I thought today's match was very close, but Brazil had more chances and were
more aggressive throughout.”
Ronaldo also delivered a positive progress report on his journey towards full
fitness.
“The recovery is going very well, I'm training with Flamengo on a daily basis
and I'm very happy because I'm training with the ball, and happy with my
recovery,” he says.
“I could make my comeback this year, but for now I'm a free agent, I don't have
a club,” he smiles. “So I’m taking things gradually, and putting some plans in
place for the next year.” |
