Corinthians coach Mano Menezes isn’t buying suggestions that defenders
are treating Ronaldo with kid gloves, fearful of injuring the Brazilian
great. Out for more than a year with a knee injury, Ronaldo has been
sensational in his return last month. His goal in Sunday’s 2-0 victory
over rival Sao Paulo was his sixth in his latest comeback.
"It is almost an insult to say the [defenders] are not doing enough
tough marking on Ronaldo," Menezes told Globoesporte.com. "This shows a
lack of respect to opposing defenders."
Menezes said little by little Ronaldo was showing flashes of the pace
he once had.
"He is a bit better each time," Menezes said. "There is talk he does
not have the same speed he once had, but in his 30-meter run on Sunday [which
led to his goal] he showed he has not lost this ability." |
