Ronaldo has expressed his delight at playing for Corinthians and
suggested that Brazilian players abroad should return to play in their
country.
The three-time FIFA World Player of the Year returned to action for
Corinthians early last month after more than a year out through injury
and scored a brace on Sunday to help the Sao Paulo giants take a
commanding lead in the Campeonato Paulista final after a 3-1 win over
Santos.
The former Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Internazionale striker
confessed that despite the difference in wages in comparison with Europe,
he is very happy to be back in Brazil.
'Earning reais instead of euros is different, but I am the happiest man
on Earth when playing at Corinthians doing what I love, no matter how
much my bank account has,' said Ronaldo at a press conference.
'Playing football is what makes me happy.'
The player admitted that Brazilian clubs may not be able to afford big
signings without the help of sponsors and believes that it is the only
way to help clubs retain their big stars instead of selling them to
European leagues early.
'A big effort is needed to make players abroad return.
'The clubs cannot do this by themselves. The backing of sponsors and big
companies is necessary.
'I told Brazilians abroad that playing here is great. At this time of
financial crisis, football can be profitable. Any investment in big
players makes a big profit, a logical situation because that's the goal
companies have.
'I hope I can encourage big players to return to Corinthians and other
clubs. Our people have little joy and I think football reduces |
